I would love something that has the multi-screen capabilities of Pro Video Player, but was a lot more reliable and robust.

So I was curious if there's any other software out there that is both reliable and feature-rich for use in a live production environment. I've also done performance tests on the same machine, using the same media, across the above mentioned software, and Qlab was the quickest to drop frames, etc. The problem that I have with it is that it's a little inflexible and quick to setup in last minute situations. The best balance between professionalism and feature-set that I've found. Runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and renders smoothly using the power of the Metal rendering technology. My problem with it is that it always feels buggy and unreliable to me, and when I've used it I've had not one but two backup systems in place because I really don't trust it. Mitti has a clear, intuitive, uncluttered user interface with an easy to learn and use workflow. Its interface is more streamlined than Pro Presenters', it's very powerful with its multi-screen capability. After you have downloaded and installed K-Lite Codec Pack, you are able to fix the playback issue of nearly all the common and mainstream video/audio files. I love this software for what it can and should be. K-Lite Codec Pack is the most popular audio and video codec pack for Windows 10/8/8.1/7/Vista/XP, etc. It also feels and seems less reliable than Playback Pro (find myself restarting it more than I want to because it starts to bug out at a certain point).

More feature rich than Playback Pro, but since it comes from a house of worship background it isn't the most professional looking, and I personally find its interface to be a little convoluted. They had mentioned a 64-bit version several years ago and now its nowhere to be found. Pretty much the industry standard, I like its simplicity and reliability, but they have major problems keeping the software up to date with Apple OS releases and it's a little light on feature-set nowadays. If it is working in Media Express, make a note of the Project Setting resolution/framerate that worked in Media Express, and use those same settings when adding the Shuttle as an input in vMix.Ĭoincidentally, I have just had a Intensity Shuttle connected to vMix within the last half hour, to test it either as a Camera input or an External output - both modes worked fine, although I did have to select the Decklink option in the External device settings, rather than the Shuttle which also shows as an entry in the menu.So I've been doing video for quite a while and I was curious if there are any video playback software alternatives that I am not thinking of. Fix that first before trying to use it in vMix. A related playback mode which is useful to anyone using loops in their projects is the oft-overlooked. One of the essential playback features you'll find in every DAW is a loop playback or cycle feature. Using video adapters or third party converters, it is easy to connect with Macs using high resolution monitors, video walls, video projectors, and professional switches. What am I dong wrong?īefore you start looking for what might be wrong in vMix, have you tried using Blackmagic's own Media Express capture software? If you can't see the incoming video in there either, then your problem is outside of vMix. The Playback Pro and Playback Pro Plus are also easy to adapt to current and modern Apple systems. When a Show File is opened, the application looks for the USB Enabler Key. To manually change the output resolution (or aspect ratio if no external display is present), click Setup in the top right corner of the Program Screen. I do not see that source coming up anywhere on my Input Selector. PlaybackPro Plus automatically adjusts to the aspect ratio of the external display. Mitti is much more modern than PBP on a Mac.

If you're on Mac, another vote for Mitti, it's quite a powerful program. I have connected an external laptop generating Playback PRO in to a BMD Intensity Shuttle video capture card and then connected the capture card to my iMac where I have vMix via a Thunderbolt 2 connection. Qlab and Mitti are the current popular options for the Mac playform.
